CLOTHING FOR SEAMEN
APPEAL TO ROTARY CLUB
Contributions of men's clothing to outfit crews of vessels 'lost as the result of enemy action and through shipwreck is sought by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle-on-Tyne. The appeal was conveyed to the Wellington Rotary Club by the secretary of the Newcastle-on-Tyne Rotary Club in the following cable message:
"Perth, W.A,, Rotary Club has given R. 1.8.1. (Rotary International for Britain and Ireland) 400 men's reconditioned suits for torpedoed seamen and victims of bombing. Strong appeal being made by the Lord Mayor of N°w-castle-on-Tyne for these needs. Is it possible for your club to organise similar gift through Newcastle-on-Tyne Rotary Club. Please cable reply."
The president of the Wellington Rotary Club (Mr. F. Jones), at yesterday's luncheon, asked members to assist by giving an unwanted suit or an overcoat.
An offer by Mr. R. A. Christian to receive and pack clothes at his premises in Tory Street was accepted. Miss Low has undertaken to organise a women's committee to inspect all clothing given and to put it into serviceable condition.
