BREACH OF ORDERS

MILITARY COURT'S AWARD

LONDON, January 15,

An anti-aircraft gunner who . disabeyed an order has been awarded the Military Medal. He was in charge of an anti-aircraft gun when an enemy aircraft appeared within easy range. The regulations forbid him to fire unless ordered by a superior officer, but the temptation was too great. He told his comrades he could not let a chance like that go by. He fired, and the raider crashed.

A court of inquiry was held to consider what punishment should be inflicted on the gunner for disobeying orders, but when the facts were laid before the General Officer Commanding his decision was, "No punishment, the gunner is to be awarded the Military MedaL"
