SHIPS FOR ALLIES
U.S. YARDS TO REOPEN
NEW YORK, January 10.
A Norwegian-American combine has taken over the old Groton shipyards in Connecticut, closed since the World War, to build a 20,000,000-dollar fleet of freighters for the Allied Merchant Marine. It is expected that construction on 9000-ton ships will start in a few weeks under the direction, of American engineers.
Maritime officials in Washingtoa stated that all.new vessels being built in the United States, and also som» old ones, will, be equipped with antt* magnetic belts- ■ - •
