BRITISH RESTAURANT MENUS

LONDON, January 9

The "Daily Telegraph" says that new restrictions in the menus of restaurants can be expected in a few days. They will lead to increasing reliance on soups, hors d'oeuvre, puddings, and fruit.

A leading West End hotel serves for 7s 6d a two-course dinner, the first comprising a hors d'oeuvre or soup or eggs, and the second a fish entree, roast, grill, or cold buffet. Another hotel supplies one main dish plus a vegetable or fruit or hors d'oeuvre.

It is understood that the new order will provide penalties for customers in addition to caterers. Over-eaters will be liable to three months' gaol and/or a fine of £100 on summary conviction, and two years' gaol and/or a £500 fine when convicted by indictment.
