UNIVERSITY CLIMBERS

■ Many successful climbs, including the first traverse from Mount Murchison ;to Mount Davie, were made by students of Victoria College from a base camp at the confluence of the White and Waimakariri Rivers during the holidays. The traverse from Murchison to Davie took three days. A high camp was made at the head of the White River, opposite the Dixon Glacier, and Mount Murchison was climbed early the following day. It was evening before Mount Davie was witliin striking distance, and as an icy crust was rapidly forming on the snow, another high camp was made, on a glacier on the south-west slopes of the mountain. Early in the morning the ascent of Davie was completed, with the snow conditions ideal. The members of the traverse party were J. Witten-Hannah, J. B. Butchers, and J. Gillies.
