At Mount Crawford.

At the Christmas party held at the Wellington prison the Presbyterian Ladies' Social Service Guild provided the tea; flowers were given by Mr. J...G. MacKenzie (Director of Parks and Reserves), and. cigarettes by the Rotary Club, Justices' Association, and W. D. and: H. O. Wills.; and Mr. Norman Aitken arranged the cheery programme, the members- of his party being Messrs. George Tynan, Ivan Dentice, E.. Dean, Blatcher, C. Pulley, and Matthews. ' The Rev. G. W. Hunt, Miramax gave a brief and cheerful address, and Mr. McGrath (superintendent) thanked all for their kind thought for the men at Mount Crawford. Mr. McGrath also gave a message from Mr. B. L. Dallard (Controller of Prisons), who was unable to be present. Popular School Teacher Retires.

Parents, pupils, and members of the Paremata, School Committee recently showed their appreciation of the 15 years' wonderful service given by the retiring school mistress, Miss M. L. Hayes, by giving her numerous presentations and farewell gatherings. The first was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Bradey by the present and past school committees, when a handsome presentation was made by < Mr. Dyer, chairman of the Education Board, who was accompanied by Mrs. Dyer. Also present was the secretary of the Education Board, Mr. Deavol, and Mrs. Deavol. Mr. Dyer spoke of the unique position of Miss Hayes, who had spent her whole term of 15 years with the Wellington Education Board at Paremata School. At the school break-up other presentations were made by Mr. G. F. Hendersori, and again individual gifts and flowers were presented by children. When the train on which Miss Hayes travelled pulled out;of the station crowds of children threw streamers and confetti. Among those present were many ex-pupils, and Mrs. Tom Hendry,, secretary of the Paremata School Committee. Married on Boxing Day.
