SHOPS TO CLOSE
THE NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS
For shop assistants generally, January 2 is a holiday, like Boxing Day. Housewives, therefore, must reckon on not being able to shop either Wednesday or Thursday this week. The only shops open on those days will be confectioners, fruiterers,' and dairies. As far as factory and other workers are concerned, January .1 is allowed as a holiday in practically all awards, but January 2 only in some.
