REPORT TO MUSSOLINI
MARSHAL GRAZIANI
DEFEAT IN AFRICA
LONDON, December 22,
It is learned in Rome that Marshal Graziani, the Italian commander-in-chief in North Africa, has made a report to Signor Mussolini on the fighting in the Western Desert. He is understood to have said that it was not the element of surprise but the superiority of the British armoured units that caused the Italians to retreat.
He described the fighting as most; bloody and said that numerous Italiam, detachments were completely wiped out while fighting at Sidi Barrani and elsewhere.
