MR. W. G. WEAVER
The death occurred recently at Kelburn of Mr. Walter George Weaver, at the age of 72 years. A son of the late Mr. James Weaver, one of the first settlers in the Wellington district, he was educated at the Terrace Grammar School. His mother and father both died at Kelburn some years ago at the ages of 85 and 100 years respectively. He was born in 1869. When a young man he joined the old Naval Brigade, and he was considered an excellent rifle shot, . winning several trophies. After leaving school, Mr. Weaver was employed "by Mr. C. D. Barraud, chemist, Lambton Quay, for three years, but being more interested in the printing business he took up employment with the Government Printing Office. His association with that department extended over 40 years. After his retirement in 1924, he took up gardening as a hobby. He was also very keenly interested in sport. In 1932 he visited England to see the birthplace of his parents. Mr. Weaver is survived, by a sister, Miss Rosetta Weaver, of Kelburn, and a brother, Mr. Frede-
rick L. Weaver, of Wallace Street, Wellington. The funeral took place at the Bolton Street Cemetery.
SIR HARLEY DALRYMPLE-HAY
LONDON, December 19.
The death has occurred of Sir Harley Dalrymple-Hay, a prominent English civil consulting engineer.
Sir Harley was associated with the construction of the London Tube railway system and designed and carried out important works for British corporations in connection with power stations. He was engineer for the tunnel under the Hooghly River at Calcutta, and was the inventor of the hooded shield and clay, pocket system of tunnelling and special apparatus for controlling accurate movement of shields.
