BRITISH CONTRACTS SIGNED
WASHINGTON, December 19.
Britain has signed contracts for the construction of 100,000,000 dollars' worth of cargo ships in the United States. Britain has already earmarked 50,000,000 dollars for a "down" payment. Thirty will be built at a new yard which is to be erected at Richmond, California, and the remainder at a new yard at South Portland. Britain will help to finance both yards.
