AWARDS FOR BRAVERY
ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY

CHRISTCHURCH, December 12,
Awards for bravery were granted to ] the following persons at a meeting of \ the court of directors of the Royal j Humane Society of New Zealand today:— Certificates.—Eleanor Jane Wilberfoss, aged 16, Wanganui, who on February 5 rescued a young girl from drowning in heavy surf at the Castlecliff Beach, Wanganui; Jack Dixon Pepper, aged 29, Hamilton, who on September 27 rescued a man from drowning in «a heavy current in the centre of the Waikato River; Leslie Waters Seager, aged 37, Wellington, who on October 4 dived into Wellington Harbour between a ship and the wharf. to rescue a man who had had a heart seizure and fallen into the water. Bronze Med*l.—Charles Lewis Olsen, aged 42, Auckland, who rescued a man from drowning in the Waitemata Harbour on August 23. He went out in a boat in very rough water, bent over to seize, the man's coat, and, noticing that the man's teeth were in his throat, drew them out first, expecting every minute that his boat would swamp, as the water was coming over the side.
Letter of Commendation.—Thomas McDonald Cushen, aged 17, Invercargill, who on March 24 dived into a swift-flowing river and/ swimming about six yards, rescued a man from drowning,
