BRITISH IMPORTS
DUTY ON SURCHARGED
GOODS
Imported goods which have been surcharged with an export tax by the British Government were the subject of a question, notice of which Mr, C A. Wilkinson (Independent, Egmont) gave in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon to the Minister of Customs (Mr. Nash). Mr. Wilkinson asked if the Minister would give consideration to the question of directing that no duty should be charged on the added price levied by the British authorities on such goods, as it had no relation to the actual cost of the goods Mr. Wilkinson said that the levying of the export tax was apparently an arbitrary matter, and was not governed by any existing procedure known in this country when goods were purchased.
