EXPLOSION AT HAIFA
ILLEGAL MIGRANTS ABOARD
HAIFA, November 25,
A number of illegal immigrants were killed when the 11,000-ton ship Patria, which is now British-owned, capsized after an explosion in the harbour. A total of 1771 migrants, mostly Jews, were aboard for deportation to a British colony. Most of them swam to safety.
Police and. soldiers dashed to the rescue, tugs and launches put out, and aeroplanes went up and reconnoitred. The cause of the explosion is unknown. The harbour has been cordoned off.
