Morgenthau, announced that the Treasury would soon ask Congress to permit taxation on future issues of all classes of Government securities. The Administration would also seek power to elevate the statutory limit of the National Debt from the current limit of 45,000,000,000 dollars to 60,000,000,000 or 65,000,000,000. He added that the public debt on June 30, 1942, might aggregate 65,000,000,000 dollars.
