PLUNKET SOCIETY KEPT BUSY

Mrs. H. Jowett, president, presided at the Plunket Society meeting on Friday. Reports submitted by suburban committees showed that they had been very active, and all functions held had been very successful. A report was submitted regarding the "Rhododendron Days" which showed that in spite of the unfavourable weather the net proceeds totalled £23 18s 9d. The Christmas cake was won by Miss D. Simmons, of the Karitane Hospital j staff. Miss Berry, reporting on behalf of the charge nurse, stated that visits tor the pre-natal clinic during the month totalled 344. In the post-natal section there were 221 new cases. Visits to homes in city and suburbs were 1753, and' to rooms 2568 babies, 348 older children, and 2880 adults. In the preschool section there were 35 new cases, and visits to rooms were 283 adults and 284 children. Miss Berry also reported that the play area had been opened on October 16, and numbers of children have been attending airice then. ADMISSIONS TO KARITANE. Miss Hitchcock, matron of the Sir Truby and Lady King Karitane Hospital, reported that 'admissions during the month were 12 mothers and 18 babies; 9 mothers and 14 babies were discharged, leaving 5 mothers and 21 babies in hospital at the end of the month. Of the admissions, 2 mothers and babies' came from Eastbourne, 1 baby from ?Tapier, 1 from Carterton, 1 from Palmerston North, 1 from Petone, 1 from Clareville, 1 from Upper Hutt, and twins from Johnsonville; the remainder were from the city and suburbs. Visitors for '■■ the month totalled 416. Gifts received during the month included 30 dozen eggs and 31 bottles of jam from Martiriborough branch. The Wellington committee is to hold a Christmas fair at 18 Kent Terrace on December 7. Conveners for the various stalls have been appointed, and arrangements are well in hand. A feature of the day will be the parade of decorated prams and children's tricycles. Contributions of cakes, produce, and Christmas gifts for the various stalls would be much appreciated.
