SETTING FOR LATEST
PRODUCTION
REALISTIC AND CHARMING
The scenery for the Thespians' latest production, "They Walk Alone," by Max Catto, was constructed entirely by members of the society and the large audience which attended the first performance in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night was thoroughly appreciative of the excellence of the setting and the artistic and splendid workmanship involved. The three acts of the play, which is a thriller, take place in the living-room of a farmhouse in Lincoln, England, and the Thespians created a farmhouse living-room that would have done credit to a pi-ofes-sional company. It really looked solid, old, and "lived in." The walls were panelled, home-made rugs lay on the floor, there were flowers in pewter pots, china gleamed on a dresser, a brass warming pan hung by the big open stone fireplace, and Windsor chairs and other pieces of cottage furniture made the room homely and charming.
The play does not provide opportunity for smart dressing except in the first act when the family is going to a dance. In this scene the sisters (played by Sonia Charters and Constance Kelly) wore, evening dress, the former being in burgundy velvet and the latter in black taffeta trimmed with diamante. Throughout the other scenes, work-a-day clothes suitable for farm life were worn.
Between acts the audience was entertained with some delightful music, played by an instrumental trip.
