WELCOME TO ENGLAND
NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN
(By Air Mail, from "The Post's" London Representative.)
LONDON, August 29
An official welcome was extended by the High Commissioner, Mr. W. J. Jordan, to a large contingent of New Zealand pilots, observers, air gunners, and naval airmen who recently arrived in England for service with the Royal Navy and the Fleet Air Arm.
Mr. Jordan met and spoke to the men. Several officials of the New Zealand Shipping Company were present.
The High Commissioner spoke with Pilot Officer P. G. Collins, who was in charge of the Air Force men, and to Mr. H. T. Burchall, R.N., who was at the head of the Naval airmen.
High praise was given to the New Zealanders by Captain Upton, who expressed his complete satisfaction on the way in which the Contingent had conducted themselves on the voyage.
"They gave us every aid they could," he told Mr. Jordan, "and helped us with the look-out watches. They did anything they were asked. They are a fine body of men and I know they will do well over here."
Mr. Jordan was accompanied by Wing Commander S. Wallingford, New Zealand liaison officer, and Mr. S. R. Skinner, chief clerk at New Zealand House.
