WOMAN MOTORIST
INTOXICATION CASE
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
HAMILTON, October 31
A fine of £10 was imposed on Irene Jessie McKenzie. aged 36, a married woman, by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court today on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. The accused pleaded guilty.
The accused was arrested on Saturday night and was released on bail on a surety requiring her to appear in Court this morning. She did' not appear then, and a warrant was issued for her arrest. Her bondsman was ordered to give reasons why the amount of the bail, £50, should not
be estreated,
The accused called at the police station this afternoon, and was immediately brought before the Court. She explained that she did not understand the terms of the bail surety.
Senior-Sergeant A. G. McHugh stated that while driving a car in Victoria Street on Saturday night the accused collided with a crossing pylon. The car overturned. The accused and her husband were found to be intoxicated, and both were arrested. Two passengers in the car disappeared.
The accused was prohibited from holding a driver's licence until October 31, 1941. No evidence was offered on a charge of dangerous driving.
Consideration of the estreatment of the bail was deferred.
