MENTAL PATIENT'S DEATH
(By Telegi'aph—Pgijjss Association.)
HOKITIKA, This Day.
An inquest was opened yesterday in connection with the drowning of a female mental hospital patient who broke away from an attendant. The patient jumped into a flooded waterhole. Nurse Muir jumped fully-clothed to the rescue, but was pushed under by the patient, who also sank. Nurse Muir came to the surface, seized the patient, and swam to the shore, where artificial respiration was unsuccessful. Nurse Muir was unable to attend the inquest, which was adjourned, owing to shock as the result of immersion.
