THE PEAK REACHED?
GERMAN BOMBINGS
NO SOLUTION OF NIGHT RAIDING YET
LONDON, October 21. It is stated authoritatively that the Germans are believed to have reached their maximum effort in sustained air attacks on Britain, though they might possibly increase in. violence for short periods. It is not believed that the winter weather will greatly reduce the bombings, but it must have some effect. Indiscriminate bombing will continue, but the German pilots will certainly be troubled with bad weather obscuring their own aerodromes.
It is wrong to believe that the answer to night bombing is just around the corner. Germany has been engaged on the problem longer than Britain but is even further from a solution.
British experts are doing their utmost to combat the menace. The problem is most difficult, being largely scientific and involving the invention of a device for the location of bombers. Britain realised the value of night bombing before Germany and made good use of it long before a bomb fell in Britain.
The policy of refraining from indiscriminate bombing as a reprisal is still considered strategically the wisest. Efforts are still being concentrated on the more valuable targets.
