LIQUOR ILLEGAL
THREE MEN PROSECUTED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 20 t Appearing on summons in the Magistrate's Court today, three men admitted charges of supplying intoxicating liquor to soldiers for consumption elsewhere than on licensed premises. The police said that the incidents happened when members of the Third Echelon were marching down the street. The men each handed a bottle of beer to soldiers and the third handed half a bottle of whisky. Counsel for one man said that his client handed to a former employee a parcel containing sandwiches, sweets, and a bottle of ale. He was ignorant j of the regulations,-the primary object of which was to stop soldiers taking liquor away from licensed premises. The Magistrate, Mr. Morland, said that the supplying was not done with j wrongful intention and ordered each defendant to pay costs. Their names were suppressed.
The public would now know the meaning of the regulations, said Mr. Morland.
