ECONOMIC CONFERENCE
GENERAL COMMITTEE SET UP
FULL EXAMINATION TO BE MADE
The-Economic Conference called by the Government set up a general working committee last night, consisting of seven representatives of the employers, seven representatives of the New: Zealand Federation of Labour and trade unions, and with the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) as chairman. Mr. A. T. Donnelly (chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand) is to act as deputy-chairman. This general committee is to examine all matters raised at the conference, and any other matters relevant to the purpose for which the conference was called, as fully and effectually as possible. Its deliberations or those of any sub-committees it may set up will not be open to the Press. The general committee is to report its findings to the full conference later, and this is not . expected to be before next week: The other members of the committee are .-—Employers: Messrs. W. W. Mulholland (Farmers' Union), W. H. Nicholson (New Zea-' land Sheep Owners' Federation), W. Marshall (Dairy Industry Council), C. V. Smith * (New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation), E. W. Maclean (New Zealand Employers' Federation), W...5. Macx Gibbon (Associated Chambers of Commerce), T. 0. Bishop (New -Zealand - Coal Mine Owners' Association). Employees: Messrs. R. Eddy (New Zealand Federation of Labour), A; W. Croskery (New Zealand Shop Assistants' Federation), G. T.'Thurston (New Zealand Engineers' and Related Trades Union), F. P. Walsh (Federation of Labour), W. N. Pharazyn (New Zealand Clerical Workers' Federation), A. McLagan (Federation of Labour), F. G.,-Young (Federation of Labour). ■ ~; The committee is to regulate its own procedure: it may examine any material which may be brought to its attention.;. and the individual members may appoint substitutes to act for them. Subcommittees may be appointed from among the members of the committee to examine any particular matters referred to them by the committee and may co-opt to those sub-committees any other persons specially qualified to assist or advise the sub-committee.
