REFUGEE CHILDREN
HOMES IN CANADA
AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE •
(Received August 14, 11.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, August 13. The Minister of Mines and Resources, Mr. Crerar, announced the formation of a National Advisory Committee to assist in placing English refugee children. He said that he would not be surprised if the movement of refugees assumed considerable importance in the near future. Homes had already been offered for 20,000 children, and if necessary Ottawa alone was capable of receiving 50,000. At present it was proposed that the children should become wards of the Crown before leaving England. Hitherto, he said, 4000 children had arrived in Canada. For the most part these transferences had been arranged privately. ■
