BIBLE CLASS COMPETITIONS
One-act plays and folk dancing were the main events at Thursday evening's session of the Bible Class competitions at Wesley Church, Taranaki Street.
The winning play, "Fours Into Seven —Won't Go!" presented by the Vyyi.?_n Street Baptist Bible Class, received some helpful and encouraging criticism from Madame Maria Dronke, the adjudicator of the section. "All parts were perfectly balanced and truly typified," said Madame Dronka, "and the whole performance was on a very -high footing." The producer was Mr. Errol Muir. The second play, presented by the Thorndon Methodist players, "The Playgoer," called for favourable comment from Madame Dronke, who praised highly the ability of some of the players. "One of Those Letters" (St. John's Presbyterian) took third place and received favourable criticism from the judge. In the folk dancing section, St. James's Presbyterian gave an "Eightsome Reel," an unusual Scottish dance accompanied by the bagpipes, which greatly interested the audience. Miss Dixon, folk dancing adjudicator, gave helpful advice to the competitors.
The results of the folk dancing were as follows:—Karori Presbyterian, 1; St. John's Presbyterian, 2; St. James's Presbyterian, 3.
The competitions will continue throughout next week, concluding with a grand demonstration of section winners on Saturday, August 10.
