FOR THE SOLDIERS
WEEKEND HOSPITALITY
Y.W.C.A. CROWDED
The lounge and the Blue Triangle Hall were filled to capacity as usual on Saturday evening when upwards of 300 soldiers and Y.W.C.A. girl members assembled for tea and dancing. Employees of the A.M.P. Society worked nobly in the afternoon in preparing for the meal and later in serving and helping to clean up. At 9 p.m. a break was made for community singing, and Mrs. Knox Gilmer, chairwoman of the organising committee, took the opportunity of telling the guests how much they liked to see them enjoying themselves. She hoped they would continue to come, and treat the association as a home. Mrs. Mclnnes and Miss Rennie, who were in charge of the cafeteria, were thanked with musical honours. Supper was then served, and dancing continued until 11 p.m.
The Y.W.C.A. desires to continue this entertaining "for the duration" and would be most grateful for donations in kind and in money to help provide the meals.
On Sunday, the rooms are open from 3 p.m. and a large number of soldiers are glad to come and join in the community singing, and games and the short service. Last week Mrs. E. Carter and the Miramar Y.W.C.A. group served the meals. The Rev. Brian Kilroy took the service and Mr. J. Casey, by kind permission of the Government Tourist Bureau, showed a series of interesting sound films. The New Zealand ones find special favour. Miss N. Darby and' Miss A. Lawson sang, and Miss N. Hyde gave a recitation. Supper was served and Private T. Moore thanked the members of the Y.W.C.A. for their hospitality and the genuine friendliness shown to them all each week.
