INTENDS TO RESIGN
COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER
Mr. W. H. Denton, who for many years has been elected as the parents' representative on the Wellington Colleges Board of Governors, yesterday announced his intention of resigning his seat. His term of office expires in October.
In announcing his intention, Mr. Denton said that new blood was wanted on the board. Some of the members had been there too long, and in this he included himself. Most of the members were busy men and, without casting any reflections on individuals, he did not think that the board's business was conducted as it ought to be. They had insufficient first-hand knowledge of the needs of the colleges and depended too much on the principals' reports, which naturally could not go into full details. What was wanted was an active visiting committee which would make itself fully acquainted with the matters which would subsequently come before the board. He would consult the parents about his resignation, he said, and place his views before them.
