FIGHTERS OF U-BOATS
Episode by episode the men of the Merchant Navy are building another heroic tradition from this war. The mastery of their seamanship, their heroism against the lawlessness of the U-boats, and their imperturbability against the odds of trained ■ gunners and torpedoes make a story of gallantry and civilian heroism that is most thrilling and heartening; and a trustworthy account of the stirring successes they have already achieved is contained in "The Merchant Navy Fights," by A. D. Divine, published by John Murray. It tells of the exploits of four of Ropner's ships in the early weeks of the war, attacked when alone. The first was unarmed and sank. The second was armed and fought half the night, but she also sank. The third and fourth both fought and neither sank —but three submarines did, and how these remarkable feats were accomplished is most vividly told.
