WEST COAST MINERS
"WRONG ATTITUDE"
REFERENCE IN HOUSE
Reference to the strike by miners at three State coalmines on the West Coast was made in the House of Representatives last night by the Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) in reply to an interjection. Mr. Frasqr said he believed that a complete and very bad mistake had been made there.
"I believe that the men have taken up the wrong attitude," Mr. Fraser continued. "I have said that, but having said that, it is the Government's responsibility to enforce the law, and I don't think it is a good -thing at this time to attack publicly any section of the' community when what we want is harmony, unity, and solidarity in overcoming any difficulties and disabilities." Mr. W. A. Bodkin (National, Central Otago): You don't want to show weakness, though. Mr. Fraser said he cordially agreed. He added that he knew many of the people in the Runanga district and there were no mofe loyal citizens. He hoped that common sense would prevail.
