MR. WILLIAM ROGERS

The death has occurred of Mr. William Rogers, managing director of the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company, aged 79. His 65 years' association with shipping commenced in 1875, when he joined the firm of N. Edwards and Company, whose steamers the Lyttelton, Charles Edward, Kennedy, and Waverley, trading under the name Anchor Line Steam Packets, were well known in New Zealand coastal trade. In 1882 he became shipping manager of the Anchor Steam Ship Company, and w' I i the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company was incorporated in 1901 he took over the general managership, which position he held till 1936, when he was appointed managing director. Mr. Rogers was a director of Griffin and Sons and the Nelson Tobacco Company, and he was chairman of the New Zealand Shipowners* Federation from 1934 till this year.
