YOUTH HOSTEL
CONCERT TO RAISE FUNDS
The most successful and best-patron-ised concert yet held at the Wellington City Mission was given there last night, the object of the presentation being to raise money for the Wellington City Mission youth hostel fund. The concert was organised by the New Zealand Youth Movement. A number of apologies for absence were received, including a telegram from the Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser), who said that business in the House prevented his attendance. He trusted that, as the youth hostel fund was a thoroughly deserving cause, the good work and pressing needs of the City Mission would not be neglected, in spite of the many demands on the public at present. Other apologies were received from the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash), the Bishop of Wellington, and the Auckland City Missioner (the Rev. Jasper Calder). The following programme was presented:— Piano-accordion music, by members of Roy Baker's Piano-accordion Band; song and dance, by Valeric and Ralph Wilkin: two-part song, by 12 children; solo, Betty Capper; community sing; Reel o' Tulloch, the Skipping Dance, and Irish Jig, by Audrey Young and Audrey Cuthbert; Frank Andrews, entertainer at the piano; Dave Paris, the man and his guitar; the Magician, Mr. S. Willard.
