MASTERTON SALES
Fat sheep were penned in larger numbers than in the past two weeks at the weekly stock sale in Masterton yesterday. As the sale progressed prices showed a decided improvement on recent sales, despite the fact that opening bids showed a slight easing. Store sheep were in strong demand, with breeding ewes, in particular, being keenly sought. The rates for fat and store cattle remained on a par with those of earlier sales. Prices are -—Sheep: Fat wethers, 26s to 26s 10d- fat ewes, 18s 3d, 19s 9d, 21s 6d to 225, light, 14s to 16s 6d; fat S.D. ewes, 23s to 24s 3d; fat hoggets, 17s 6d to 225; forward wethers, 25s Id; store wethers, 20s 6d to 23s 6d; m.a. ewes r.w. Southdown rams, 20s to 265. 3d; five-year ewes r.w. Ryeland rams, 20s 7d* small two-tooth ewes, 17s 6d; b.f. hoggets, 9s to 17s 6d; woolly wether hoggets, 10s Id to 15s. Cattle: Fat heifers, £7 5s to £8 Is; fat cows, £5 9s to £8 7s; fat dairy cows, £3 5s to £5; weaner Jersey heifers, £3.
