FIRST TWO FLIGHTS

PAN-AMERICAN AIR SERVICE

NEW YORK, July 2.

The Pan-American Airways flyingboat will carry no passengers to New Zealand on the first two' trips. The commander on the flight commencing on July 12 will be Captain John H. Tilton, and the first officer. Captain R. J. Nixon, both of whom participated in the survey flights.

Already 100,000 first-flight covers are waiting at San Francisco and 25,000 more are expected before the closing day on July 10.

It is not certain whether the service will carry direct Australian mail. The Post Office has announced that Australian mail will not be carried, but the company announces that such mail will be carried at 60 cents a half-ounce, compared with 50 cents for letters to New Zealand.

Mr. Harold Gatty will accompany ;he first flight.
