DAY IN PARLIAMENT
TRIBUTES TO SIR WALTER
CARNCROSS
Instead of the formal opening of the financial debate by the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton)-, the House of Representatives last night found it had to deal with a brief agenda. The sitting lasted for fifty minutes, and in that time two questions were asked, a number of papers tabled, a Bill introduced'by the Democratic Labour member for Grey Lynn (Mr. J. A. Lee), and several tributes paid to the late Speaker of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Sir Walter Carncross, whose death occurred on Sunday. The House then adjourned until 7.30 this evening, when Mr. Hamilton is expected to say what he thinks about the Budget.
- Sir Walter's record of fifty years' service in the Legislature of the Dominion was the subject of eulogy on. all sides of the House, which feelingly acknowledged his splendid work and expressed its sympathy for those of his family who survived him.
