UNSETTLED WEATHER

SOUTHERLY CHANGE LIKELY

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Moderate to fresh northerly winds, with the likelihood of a southerly change tomorrow.

Weather cool and unsettled, with occasional rain.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for moderate to strong northerly winds from Nelson and Marlborough northwards, with light to fresh southerlies to westerlies over the remainder of the country. A southerly change, however, will be advancing slowly northward, and southerly to south-westerly winds are likely to become general within the next 24 to 36 hours. In eastern areas between East Cape and Cook Strait the weather will be mainly fair, but elsewhere it will be cloudy and unsettled with fairly widespread rain,*more especially in Westland and in the central provinces. Conditions, however,, will improve later from the south. Temperatures will be moderate in the north, but cold in the south with some snow on the ranges.

A weak anticyclone is still centred to the north, but a depression began to cross the Dominion this morning. Winds yesterday tended northerly or north-westerly and freshened, especially in the Cook Strait area. Rain has fallen in the western and southern districts of the South Island, and scattered rain was extending this morning to Taranaki. In eastern areas of the North Island the weather has continued fine, but elsewhere it has been more cloudy. Temperatures have been

rather cool, and there were light frosts in both Islands last night.

Wellington had cloudy weather yesterday, the north-westerly wind becoming strong in the afternoon. Temperatures ranged between 51.7 and 43.5 degrees. The three other centres experienced fair to cloudy weather, with light winds and moderate temperatures, although Christchurch had a frost last night of three degrees.
