STATE ASSISTANCE
DISCHARGED SOLDIERS
Although the Government had passed regulations providing for the re-em-ployment of soldiers by employers after the soldiers were discharged from military duties, in some cases the exsoldiers would be. entitled to war pensions, the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) stated today. Consequently forms of application for such pensions would be obtainable from any agency of the Social Security Department, and each application would be determined by the War Pensions Board.
There must of necessity be some delay in dealing with applications and discharged soldiers in need of immediate assistance 11 should claim a benefit under the Social Security Act, as assistance either for sickness or unemployment could be given under that Act. Any benefit granted under the Act would not prejudice the soldier's application for a war pension.
