NEW BISHOP
CONSECRATION CEREMONY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
St. Mary's Cathedral Church, Parnell, was crowded today for the consecration of the Venerable William John Simkin as Anglican Bishop of Auckland. In the corisecration ceremony Archbishop West-Watson was assisted by Bishops Cherrington (Waikato), Fitchett (Dunedin), Holland (Wellington), and Bennett (Aotearoa), and by Bishop Anderston, retired bishop of Willochra, Australia.
The preacher was the Rev. R. T. Hall, vicar of Otane. The clergy entered the church to the singing of "Soldiers of the Cross, Arise." Particularly impressive was the laying on of hands by the Archbishop and the Bishops upon the head of the Bishopelect, after which the new Bishop arose from his knees and received from the Archbishop a copy of the Bible.
