"Bookplates" was the subject of a lecture recently delivered t' the Wellington Sketch and Studio Club by Mr. Johannes C. Andersen. The early bookplates, said the speaker, were mostly of a heraldic character, but became more ornamental as time went on. The Victorian era witnessed a great revival in the popularity of bookplates, in which "punning" was often resorted to. Mr. Andersen dealt with the various processes involved in the production of bookplates, and illustrated his remarks with some 50 or so examples.
