WELLINGTON SOCIETY'S YEAR
There were some 150 keenly inter-' ested members and friends at the annual meeting of the Wellington Hortacultural Society last night. Mrs. EM. Gihner presided, and there were present Mrs. P. Fraser. wife of the Prime Minister, Mr. "W. K. Dallas, Director of the Horticultural Division of the Department of Agriculture, Councillor W. Duncan, chairman of. the reserves department of the Wellington City Council, the Director of Parks and Reserves, Mr. J. G. Mac--Kenzie,. and Mr. G. S. Nicoll (New Zealand Institute of Horticulture). Reviewing the past year, Mrs. Gilmer spoke of the Centennial Show and others which followed it. One of "the outstanding effects of the women's section at the Exhibition had; been the .shows and talks. ' Gardens were equally, if not more, necessary now than in times of peace, as they formed the best antidote to the horrors of war. ; The election of officers resulted: — Patrons, Viscount and Lady Galway; president, Mrs. E. The Bledisloe Trophy in the amateur native garden competition was presented to Mrs. A. V. Ashton by Mrs. Fraser, and. Miss Eglin's Trophy, in the children's decorative section in the year's shows, to Miss Joan Broadhead. An interesting address on how to grow flowers throughout the year was given by Mrs. E. Lovell, of Hawera. She described the methods of maintaining the blooms during the autumn and winter months, and the best kinds of flowers to grow."
