JOHN O' LONDON CLUB
There was a large attendance. of members in the Turnbull Library for the May meeting of the Wellington John o' London Club, when the results of the club's short story competition were announced, and the three books donated by Mr. K. Kuring were presented to the prize-winners. The librarian, Mr. C. R..H. Taylor," who judged the stories, spoke of the" pitfalls attendant on short-story writing, and in a helpful manner outlined the points of weakness in the stories1 submitted. .Brief criticism was made-of the three prize-winning stories. Tlie result of the competition was: ■ Mrs. K. Kurnig, 1; Miss G. Harrison, 2;-. Mr. M; S. Butterton, 3. The .three winning stories were read, and Mr. Taylor, to amplify his remarks, read three short stories by Brene, Katherine-Mansfield, and Edgar Allan Poe.
