SERVICE TO CITY

FREE AMBULANCE'S RECORD

FINE WORK OF AUXILIARY

Nearly thirteen thousand patients were attended by the Wellington Free Ambulance last year. In her annual report Lady Norwood, president of the Ambulance Ladies' Auxiliary, congratulated the drivers on' their efficiency and enthusiasm, and said that their civic service well deserved the appreciation of citizens as well as the patients carried. In the twelve years since the ambulances' inception they had travelled 1,036,556 miles without any accident reported.

Since the auxiliary was formed eleven years ago members had collected £1711, with which they had furnished the ambulance building, provided a special ambulance, and assisted the board financially. In the last year, Lady Norwood stated, although activities had been somewhat restricted, £251 8s 6d had been raised and of this the very small sum of £21 14s 9d had been reserved for expenses. Bridge parties, a "mystery" auction, musicals, a, jumble sale, and various competitions had been the chief source of revenue, and of them the bridge parties had been found most profitable, as well as enjoyable. Two groups, led by Mrs. Walshe, Mrs. Coad, and Miss I." L. Bull, met on alternate weeks, and the president singled out Mesdames Gledhill, Aston, Young, Meyer, S. Smith, Thompson, Searle, and Dixon for special thanks in connection with the parties. Votes of thanks were accorded the hon. auditor, Mr. Ernest Hunt, as well as- the many friends who had given presents and donations. ;' Tributes to the auxiliary were paid by Sir Charles Norwood, president of the Ambulance Board, Mr. F. Roffe, ambulance superintendent, and Messrs. Marcus Marks and A. J. McCurdy, of the board. PRESIDENT RE-ELECTED. Lady Norwood wag re-elected president for the twelfth time in succession.
