A SPLENDID RESPONSE
(From "The Post's" Representative.) NELSON, March 14.
In the cause of humanity, the women) of Nelson are responding in a splendid manner, and cases of excellent and useful articles of clothing will be shortly dispatched - for refugees ih Europe by the local Red Cross Society. This work comes from all parts of the district, and is being done by committees formed, for that reason. At the same time those committees are also working to augment the National Patriotic Fund. Five O'clock Party. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Topliss gave a five o'clock party one afternoon this week at their home, and their house and garden was a delightful haven from the strong wind that had been blowing all day. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Searle, Dr. and Mrs. D. C. Low, Sir Thomas and Lady Easterfield and Miss Easterfield, Mr. and Mrs. G. Samuel, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Fell, Colonel and Mrs., Lorimer, Mr, and Mrs. R. B. Beattie, the' Misses Hayes, Moore, E.Davies, L. Lucas, and Messrs. C. Hamilton and R. Hunt. Farewell to Member. ,• .:;.;■: Many members of the . Nelson Women's Club reading circle attended a farewell morning tea party given this week to Miss -Margaret Jeffries, who leaves for England shortly. The course is in good order for this time of year, and a very pleasant, afternoon was spent. The competition was won by Mr. and Mrs. F. Field with a score of 4 down.
