NEW PETROL COUPON

PROCEDURE CHANGED

CONTINUOUS TRAVELLING

If the holder of a special petrol licence travels continuously, his licence to obtain petrol will be supplemented by a new type of coupon. Making this announcement i'ast night, the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) said that commercial travellers, salesmen, and other persons who used motor-vehicles regularly to travel long distances would be benefited by the simplification in procedure that wouid result. To give effect to this change, | a warrant was gazetted yesterday. The Minister said that instead of ob- j taming a special licence for the re- j quisite gallonage at the beginning of each month, a commercial traveller would now be given the appropriate number of gold-coloured coupons. When purchasing petrol he would surrender these coupons as in the case of the private motorist. No special' entries in the books of the service station would be necessary. The petrol attendant would not have to add up the entries on the back of the licence, he would not have to check the total with the amount stated on the front, and he would not have to make his own entry on the licence. The established procedure with special licences would still be necessary in the case of those persons making occasional or irregular lengthy journeys. "The new procedure has been established for the convenience of those who are continuously on the road," said Mr. Sullivan. "Under no circumstances may the new gold coupons be sold or transferred. The coupons take the place of a special licence, and heavy penalties are provided in the regulations for the . transfer of petrol or coupons obtained under this authority. Discretion is given to the district controllers to decide the cases in which the gold coupons are to be made availjable." ', .■ : ~ . . ,
