LONDON CALM

THREATENED ATTACK

CONFIDENCE JN AIR FORCE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, This Day,

"In a war of nerves Britain is bound to win," said Mr. Clifford Hay, retiring Agent-General for New South Wales in London, when interviewed today on the Monterey, by which he is returning to Australia to become President of the Superannuation Board of New South Wales. He paid a fine tribute to the spirit of Londoners under the stress of war. "They display no fear of the vast air invasion that is threatened in March or April," he said. "This attitude is engendered by implicit confidence in the Air Force and its ability to deal with any contingency that may arise. Although it would be revealing secrets to state the dispositions of the vast air defences and the fighter units, it is sufficient to say that England is ready. There is no fear of a surprise attack by the enemy."
