A NATIONAL EFFORT

THE QUEEN CARNIVAL

PLUNKET SOCIETY'S NEED

OF FUNDS

The tremendous increase in the work undertaken by the Plunket Society during the last 12 months means that in order to maintain the service a great deal more money has to be raised and the support of the public is earnestly solicited at the present time when the society, to help the mothers and save 'he babies, is called on for a national effort, greater than it has ever been faced with before.

The widespread enthusiasm with which the Queen . Carnival is being greeted is an encouraging indication that the public are aware of the importance of the society's work, and the support which is being accorded the girls who have generously consented to stand as "Queens" indicates that the carnival will be an outstanding success.

The Queens and their representative colours are as follows:—Army, Miss Patricia Gledhill (khaki); Navy, Miss Ruth Wheeler (navy blue); Air Force, Miss Suzanne Bothamley (Air Force blue); Merchant Service, Miss Patsy Ashbolt (scarlet).

Each girl has a strong committee and each committee is arranging functions for its candidate. Supporters will be able to pure" ase Id votes to assist their choice for Queen, and ribbon badges will also be sold.

The contest will conclude on March 15 with a ball in the Assembly Hall at the Exhibition. The pageant will b- arranged by Mrs. Philip Cooke and an energetic committee is completing arrangements to ensure the success of this function. Invitations may be obtained from the secretary, Miss Kathleen Hayes, 18 Kent Terrace, and as it is intended to limit the sale of tickets early application is advisable.
