STATION AT TAWA FLAT
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Could the Railway Department provide a stopping place for a train or some trains at a point between Tawa Flat and Porirua at an early date? People living in this district have to walk a great distance to a station and mainly along the railway line. There are over 100 people here and they are debarred from going to the Exhibition by the inconvenient train service and unnecessary walk; to the station. A train into town in the afternoon is also needed. If a train were run from Paekakariki stopping at all stations it would bring in a few j:.undred people. —I am, etc.,
DIGGER.
Inquiries made by "The Post" show that the matter of providing an additional stopping place for trains between Tawa Flat and Porirua has already been under consideration by the Railways Department, but in view of the projected duplication of the line in this locality and the fact that the provision of suitable facilities would involve considerable outlay, it is not considered that the heavy expenditure involved would be justified at the present time and more particularly under the existing conditions. The Department's reply also states that consideration has been given to the provision of an early afternoon train from Paekakariki, to Wellington, but the prospective additional traffic is not such as to warrant this additional service being provided at the present juncture. Some rearrangement of train services may be practicable after the line is electrified, and the matter of running a midday train from the suburban area will then be further reviewed. The Department's PoriruaWellington bus service, with time-table filling gaps between train services, is also available to residents in this area.
