FIRED AT OVER BRITAIN

B0MB ( FALLS, NEAR TRAWLER

GERMAN VERSION

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) | (Received January 26, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 25. Anti-aircraft, batteries went into action last night when a plane was seen in the vicinity of an east coast town. The Air Ministry later stated that the plane was a friendly one and was not damaged. It is reported that a German plane flew over the Thames Estuary this afternoon and that anti-aircraft guns fired on it, but the Air Ministry announced that the report was inaccurate and that there was no enemy aircraft in the area. ; In reference to the Shetiands raid yesterday, Captain Crawford, of the trawler Loch Assater, states that a German plane dropped two bombs. The first, which fell 15 yards from the trawler, threw the stern around and deluged the deck with water. The plane arrived and left so quickly that there was no time to use a gun even if he had had one.

The German version is that "British ships which proved to be armed merchantmen opened fire on German planes which answered with bombs."
