GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE

AUCKLAND, This Day

Showery weather prevailed at Ellerslie this morning for the final gallops in connection with the Auckland Midsummer Meeting.- The course proper, on which' the poles were 40ft out, was open for fast work and there was also some galloping on the No. 3 grass track. The going was on the soft side. The best efforts of the morning were credited to Pasture over half a mile, Silver' Quex over five furlongs, Pern over six furlongs, and Royal Appellant and Ivy Willonyx over a round. British Talent and Knight of Australia were sent a mile, running the distance in Imin 52sec, the last half in 55 3-ssec. British Talent; was being held back to his companion. ' Silver Quex beat Aero King by about three lengths over five furlongs in Imin 4 3-ssec, arid as Aero King got the best of the start it was a good effort on the part of Silver Quex. Pern, after traversing his first three furlongs in 38 4-ssec, got to the end of six furlongs in Imin 19 .4-ssec, .the best of the morning over the distance. Silver-Stick impressed more than Worton at the end of five furlongs in Imin 6sec, the first,'two taking 25 1-5, sec. ' i Bronze Emerald, shaded, Lady Acushla at the end of half a mile in 51 4-ssec, both working well. ' Royal Appellant and Ivy Willonyx were sent a rounti, completing the distance in 2min 11 l-ssec. The former finished slightly, in front and it was a good effort. Pasture and Bournemouth covered half a mile in 51 ,1-Ssec, ;the former finishing 6n-the better. • Mintlaw did the last half of a mile i on the No. 3 grass in 53sec. He is looking well. *
