The outstanding cultural] event of New Zealand's Centennial year is the collection of contemporary paintings now on exhibition at the National Art Gallery. This is the finest display of its kind ever seen in New1 Zealand. Seven important works have b,een lent by the Tate Gallery, British national treasures allowed to come to the Dominion as a special favour.' The advent of the Coronation picture lent by his Majesty the King has aroused great interest, already thousands having made a special visit to view it.
