FOURS FINALS

Pavitt (Fitzroy) and Kirkwood (St. John's) had a keen fight for the right to play Livingstone (Onehunga), the New Plymouth skip getting there by a relatively comfortable margin of 6 points. Scoring was fairly even in the early ends, and at the sixth Pavitt was 5-3 on the card. Thenceforward he added 9 on five ends and led Kirk-

wood 13-3. In the second half of the game the St. John's skip made a bid for a place and. from the twelfth end onwards he carded six singles and a 2; but the Fitzroy. combination was too good, and a 3 on the twentieth clinched their victory by 18-12.

The final of the fours was a runaway for Livingstone, whose team settled down early and piled on the points from, the start. By the fourth end Livingstone was 9-1, and thenceforward he improved his position. Pavitt fought doggedly on, and from the eighth end onward he made a showing, driving with great accuracy and exhibiting considerable skill also with the draw.

On the eleventh end he lifted a brace after the jack had been driven against the bank to bounce back, on to the green,' and on the next end he just missed a royal chance of wresting Livingstone's bowl out for 4.

In the later stages of the game the opposing skips shared the points, but the Aucklander was too far ahead for Pavitt to catch him, and with two ends to play the Fitzroy team neded 9 to tie. They got a 2, which put the issue beyond doubt. Livingstone 21----14.

In the play-off for fourth money in the singles J. R. Smith defeated Whittaker (Onehunga) 21-13.

H. Rolls (Featherston) took third prize, Spearman (Sydenham) giving him the game by default.

Playing for fourth place in the pairs contest Laurie (Island Bay) defeated McWhannell (Hataitai) 21-14.

Fourth place in the fours was won by Hazelwood (Lyall Bay), who defeated Bell (Tauranga) 23-19.
