In the overseas trade returns for December the principal increases over December, 1938, were: —
Imports: Grain and flour, £1,960,000; livestock. £470,000; meat, £1,879,000; dairy produce, £2.479,000; beverages, £570,000: other food, £2,546,000: ironore and scrap, £497.000; non-ferr.ous ores. £671.000; raw cotton, £2,622,000; oil seeds. £1,171,000; paper-making materials, £623,000: rubber, £302,000; iron and steel manufactures, £1,121,000; non-ferrous manufactures. £611,000; textile manufactures, excluding wool, cotton, -silk, £458,000: chemicals, £538,000; oil manufactures, £1,405,000>
Principal decreases: Livestock foodstuffs, £379,000; fresh fruit, £305,000; tobacco, £1,816.000; wood and timber, £1,117,000; wool and raw waste, £1,701.000: timber manufactures. £255.000. "
Exports: Principal increases, beverages, £739,000; tobacco, £251,000; coal, £658.000; cotton yarns and manufactures. £1,342,000; woollen manufactures, £458.000; silk manufactures, £395.000; chemicals, £850,000.
Decreases: Wool and raw waste, £371.000; iron and manufactures, .£617,000; machinery, £1,460,000; vehicles. £1,008,000. •.-.•..
